Canadian Forces members are proud to serve Canada by defending its values, interests and sovereignty at home and abroad.
Canadian Forces personnel belong to air, land, sea and special operations components. Members Serve either full-time in the Regular Force or part-time in the Reserves. When you join the Regular Force, you are signing on for several years of service. Members of the Reserves are part-time Military personnel who get a sense of what it might be like to pursue a Military career, without making a long-term commitment.
Four Canadian Forces operational commands report to the National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa. They are:
1. Canada Command, supported by six regional Joint Task Forces for the defence of Canada, works in support of civil authorities in the delivery of their mandates during crises, or in operations in the national interest that require some of the specialized or unique capabilities of the Canadian Forces. On the continental front, Canada Command works closely with US Northern Command and North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), to ensure vigilance and maintain alertness at all times.
2. Canadian Expeditionary Force Command is responsible for all Canadian Forces international operations, with the exception of operations conducted solely by Special Operations Group elements.
3. Canadian Special Operations Forces Command is capable of responding to terrorism and threats to Canadians and Canadian interests around the world.
4. Canadian Operational Support Command, delivers national-level operational support to Canadian Forces missions at home and abroad, including the full range of combat support and combat service support functions such as logistics, military engineering, health services and military police.
