Nomination Process

OCEAN Industries BC welcomes nominations for the Ocean and Marinespace Awards from members of the organization, alumni, students, staff, retirees and members of the public. Self-nominations or applications will be considered. The nominee must nominee must be in compliance with all laws and ordinances, and may take the form of one of the following:
  • An Individual;
  • A Small or Medium Enterprise with less than 25 employees, may be a public sector Branch or Division; or;
  • A Corporation with more than 25 employees from both the Public and Private sector.

Awards may be presented in each of the five main economic categories for a total of 15 Finalists:

  • Harvest and Resource Extraction
  • Manufacturing and Processing
  • Retail, Service, Consultancy Commercial
  • Government, Crown, Agencies
  • Non-Government Organizations

To nominate a person or organization for an Ocean and Marinespace Award of Excellence, a nomination form must be completed, including all mandatory fields. Please complete the online nomination form or print a hard copy (.pdf file). Adobe Acrobat Reader is required for .pdf files.

What is the purpose of the award?
OCEAN Industries BC has established the Ocean and Marinespace Awards of Excellence to recognize outstanding people and organizations  and honour significant service, contribution and achievements of people who support the promotion of a clean, safe and secure ocean and marinespace economy. The inaugural award will be presented at a reception in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada, in January of 2009, and will continue to be presented on an annual basis.

Who can be nominated?
Any individual or organization that is compliant with all laws who works or promotes a clean, safe and secure ocean and marinespace economy in a responsible way .

Can I nominate a deceased alumnus?
Yes. Nominations will be accepted for any person, living or deceased.

Will I be notified if my nominee wins?
Yes. You will either be notified by email or telephone if your nominee is selected as the recipient.

What are the nomination criteria?
To be eligible to receive an Ocean and Marinespace Award of Excellence, nominees must have demonstrate that they are compliant with all laws, registered with a professional association or legal entity and demonstrate significant and proven contribution(s) in one or both of the following areas:

  • Professional or Academic Achievement: recognizes the accomplishments of people who support or work in the Ocean and Marinespace Economy.
  • Contributions to Community: recognizes the accomplishments of the Nominee in distinguished volunteer leadership, humanitarian endeavors and community and public service. 
  • High Standard of Service: recognizes that the Nominee is esteemed by colleagues and clients to have met and exceed expectations of quality service to customers and constituents;.
  • Quality Products: recognizes that the Nominee is esteemed by colleagues and clients to have produced quality products in a consistent manner or good value for money and have achieved a high visibility in the market.

What makes a good entry?
Professional or academic achievement:

  • Exemplary career success, visibility
  • Received significant recognition/awards 
  • Significant other roles (Boards of Directors, Advisory Groups, etc.) 
  • Senior leadership level 
  • Known beyond industry segment

Contributions to Community:

  • Significant, sustained involvement, volunteerism, philanthropy
  • Highly visible involvement that is clearly recognized 
  • Multiple leadership roles 
  • Proven impact (could be local, regional, national, international) 
  • How will the recipient be chosen? 
  • A committee within OCEAN Industries BC will review all applicants. Award selection will be made by the committee. 
  • When will the recipients be announced?
  • Finalists will be notified after November 31st each year. Public announcements will follow at a Public event scheduled for January of the following year.

What does the recipient receive?
The recipient will be recognized at the Ocean and Marinespace event and in other venues, such as the OCEAN Industries web site, Media releases, Magazines associated with the industry category. A plaque acknowledging the recipient will be hung in the Future Ocean and Marinespace Enterprise Centre. A certificate of honour will also be given to the recipient and each Finalist will be acknowledged..

When is the nomination deadline?
Nominations will be accepted throughout the year and will be reviewed annually on or by December 15th.

Affinity Partnerships
OCEAN Industries BC has affinity relationships with companies that provide services to Members. Your participation in these services generates revenue for member programs, services and publications.
OCEAN Industries BC does not rent or sell your personal contact information. The Association’s affinity partners may contact you about their services from time to time. In keeping with current federal privacy legislation laws, we contract an arms-length mailing and telephone service to notify you of the programs. These outside companies are contracted to follow privacy laws, ensuring that your contact information is kept confidential and not released directly to the affinity partner.
